An Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is a structured treatment program that provides a higher level of care than traditional outpatient therapy while allowing clients to maintain their daily responsibilities, such as work, school, or family commitments.
IOPs are designed for individuals who need more support than standard outpatient therapy can provide but do not require the 24-hour supervision of an inpatient program. At Adira Health & Wellness, our IOP offers a comprehensive approach to mental health and substance use disorder treatment. It is ideal for individuals who are transitioning from inpatient care or those who need intensive support but still wish to live at home.
Our program is open to adults and adolescents who are committed to their recovery and are looking for a structured environment to help them achieve their goals.
Who is the IOP For?
Our IOP is tailored for individuals struggling with mental health challenges, substance use disorders, or a combination of both. It is particularly beneficial for those who:
• Are stepping down from a more intensive level of care, such as inpatient treatment or residential rehab.
• Need more support than weekly therapy sessions can provide.
• Are experiencing a relapse and need focused support to regain stability.
• Have completed inpatient treatment but need continued structured care to transition back into everyday life.
The IOP at Adira Health & Wellness is designed to offer flexibility while providing the necessary structure and support for effective treatment. Our program runs on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. This schedule allows clients to attend therapy sessions in the late afternoon and early evening, making it easier to balance treatment with work, school, or other responsibilities.
The program is offered in a hybrid format, allowing clients to participate either in-person at our facility or virtually from the comfort of their own homes. This flexibility ensures that everyone can access the care they need, regardless of their location or personal circumstances.
Each IOP session typically includes a combination of group therapy, individual therapy, and skills training. The structured environment of the IOP provides clients with the opportunity to engage deeply with their treatment, develop new coping strategies, and connect with others who are on a similar journey.
Our IOP incorporates a variety of evidence-based therapeutic modalities to address the unique needs of each client. These include:
1. Mindfulness-Based Sobriety:
Mindfulness-based approaches help clients develop greater awareness of their thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations. By practicing mindfulness, clients learn to respond to stressors and triggers in a calm and measured way, reducing the risk of relapse and improving emotional regulation.
2. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT):
CBT is a widely used therapeutic approach that focuses on identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviors. In the IOP, CBT helps clients recognize the connections between their thoughts, feelings, and actions, and empowers them to develop healthier, more adaptive ways of thinking and behaving.
3. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT):
DBT is particularly effective for individuals struggling with intense emotions, self-harm, or suicidal ideation. It combines cognitive-behavioral techniques with mindfulness practices to help clients build skills in emotional regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and mindfulness.
4. Seeking Safety:
Seeking Safety is an evidence-based model that is designed to help individuals who have experienced trauma and are struggling with substance use disorders. The approach focuses on developing coping skills to manage both trauma and addiction without delving deeply into the trauma narrative, making it a safe and supportive option for many clients.
5. Gestalt Therapy:
Gestalt therapy emphasizes personal responsibility and focuses on the here-and-now experience of the client. It encourages clients to explore their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors in the present moment, helping them to gain insight into how they interact with the world and how they can make positive changes.
6. Trauma-Informed Care:
Our IOP is grounded in the principles of trauma-informed care, which means that we recognize and respond to the impact of trauma on our clients’ lives. We strive to create a safe, supportive environment where clients feel empowered and respected, and where their trauma is addressed in a sensitive and compassionate manner.
7. Incorporation of Restorative Yoga:
In addition to the core therapeutic modalities, our IOP also incorporates restorative yoga as a complementary practice. Restorative yoga is a gentle, therapeutic form of yoga that helps to calm the nervous system, reduce stress, and promote relaxation. It is particularly beneficial for individuals in recovery, as it supports both physical and emotional healing.
During IOP sessions, clients have the opportunity to participate in restorative yoga classes that are specifically tailored to their needs. These classes are designed to help clients reconnect with their bodies, release tension, and develop a greater sense of inner peace. The integration of yoga into the IOP provides clients with additional tools for managing stress and supporting their overall well-being.
8. Support and Accountability:
One of the key benefits of the IOP at Adira Health & Wellness is the sense of community and support that it provides. Group therapy sessions offer clients the opportunity to connect with others who are facing similar challenges, share their experiences, and offer mutual support. This sense of community is crucial for building resilience and staying committed to recovery.
In addition to group therapy, each client in the IOP has regular individual therapy sessions with their assigned therapist. These one-on-one sessions allow for personalized attention and deeper exploration of the client’s unique challenges and goals. The therapist works closely with the client to develop a tailored treatment plan and provides ongoing support and guidance throughout the program.
The IOP also emphasizes accountability. Clients are encouraged to set goals for their recovery and to take an active role in their treatment. Regular check-ins with the therapist and group members help to keep clients on track and motivated to achieve their goals.
9. Family Involvement:
At Adira Health & Wellness, we understand that recovery is not just an individual journey—it often involves the support and involvement of loved ones. Our IOP includes family therapy sessions, where appropriate, to help clients and their families work together towards recovery. Family therapy can be an essential component of the healing process, as it addresses communication issues, resolves conflicts, and strengthens the support system that is crucial for lasting recovery.
